2021 is the year of the Ox; my year. So I might had gone a bit crazy trying to find a ton of year of the Ox products. Hey, it doesn't happen every year okay? lol
Colourpop released a more extensive collection this Lunar New Year than the one they released last year. I love the packaging for this! All the reds and golds just call me like the horizon calls Moana. Well, okay it doesn't call me that intensely, but you get the point.
And while the palette case is really cute the thing that bothers me is that it's not an actual palette it's just pressed shadows in a palette. I didn't bother to check if these were shades in their permanent collection -- please don't tell me if they are lol.
In the collection was also a lip kit, a lip mask and a few blushes. I don't wear blush so I never really reach for those. I haven't swatched the lip kit just yet either.
I recently posted a review of the other lip mask I had tried from Colourpop and wasn't too much a fan of. I still want to try this one and see if it's the same.
I'm glad I managed to snag a few products from this collection!
What's your Chinese Zodiac?
I use to haul the hell out of ELF back when I started getting into makeup in 2007; back then you could only order their products online and they only had their $1 line. There's still some stuff from the $1 that I swear by or always keep on hand to this day.
Then they released their Studio Line where everything was $3 and their brushes in that line are still some of my favs. Then after that released another line I don't remember the name of but I LOVED that line! They had pigments (the pink one was a holy grail and I'm so sad I lost mine or it's still back home in CA) that I loved and they had this all natural brush set to go with it. I still have the travel set floating around somewhere. I wish they'd bring that back!
Since then they've created so many more products and collections; some I've LOVED and others I could live without.
I haven't made a full ELF haul from their website since 2015 so I was due for one! I picked up a few things I've been wanting to get/try!
ELF has certainly upped their prices over the years and I don't blame them! But what use to get me a good amount of products just get me a few now a days lol!
I've seen the Modern Metal's floating around Instagram and was super curious about it. There's also a lip set that I skipped on since I just got a ton of lippies for Christmas. The ELF Perfect Blend Concealer is a repurchase over the years — it's not the best concealer ever but it does what it needs to do!
My purchase came with a free gift that included the Face Primer which I think I've tried once when I didn't understand the concept of Primers and Sugar Lip Exfoliater which I also think I tried once and didn't really dig.
I also got this beanie because it was up for $4 and to show my love for ELF cosmetics. Not just that but I've been trying to get a hold of more pom beanies and I'm so picky with the ones I like!
The main reason for my purchase?
The Heart highlighter duo!
I've been following Heart for years; since she lived in that apartment way before her and Arnold got married or engaged I think. And she's always been a Filipino influencer to look up to! I used this in a look I made a blog post about on hazearella recently and it was the first time in 10 years I decided to put highlighter on my face again. And you know, I didn't hate it! Bubba even noticed and complimented me on my glow. Safe to say I'll be reaching for this more often!
Most of my beauty posts can be found on hazearella but I am trying to add some here as well since makeup and beauty is a huge part of a my life!
After making this purchase however I saw ELF recently came out with a new skincare line! I love that they're coming out with so much skincare at such an affordable price and I'm itching to try some as I'm trying to build a skincare routine myself this year!

Do you have any favorite ELF products?
Lately I've been loving HUDA eye shadow palettes but it wasn't until I had stumbled on the HUDA Gemstone Obsessions palette that I really got weird about starting an entire HUDA palette collection (I miss this vanity/set up). I mean, can we just... talk about how GORGEOUS this palette is? I'm a sucker for shimmer and glitter shades so this was right up all my ally's, let me tell you!
I ended up buying myself the HUDA Desert Dusk palette shortly after over the Rose Gold Remastered that I had originally told myself I was going to get and now I sort of regret not sticking to my original plan...
Then my fiance got me the HUDA Nude palette I had been itching for for Christmas.
I MEAN LOOK AT IT.
I'm in love with the four reflective shades, I just hate how one swipe/swatch and you sort of mess up the patterns of the pearl flecks so I'm trying to be careful and not ruin how pretty they are. Which I'm sure, at some point is bound to happen... BUT LET ME PROLONG THIS FATE OF DOOM ok? I love that the palette includes two glitter shades though I sometimes find them hard to work with/hard not to ruin as well and enough mattes to create the perfect look.
I wouldn't really call the shades in this palette "nude" however since there's a lot of berry tones. Or well more than what you would usually find in a "nude" palette.
The fiance and I went on a "date day" and I had to find a look for this top.
Oh hey Baby Lo, you're looking mighty... very much there these days. With your 28 week self! Bubba got me this cute maternity top from Target and I wanted to find a purple in my collection that would match.
You'd think the HUDA Amethyst palette, right?
WRONG.
The purples in that palette were not the purples I was looking for. At all. It was literally strange. And a little disappointing.
Every Christmas Bubba always says, "this is gonna be, the BEST Christmas EVER!" and every year he tops the previous year lol.
He also has a habit of letting me open gifts early.
One of the first early gifts I got to open was my Too Faced Gingerbread palette and my Fenty lip/cheek combos. Only cause Bubba wanted his tablet early lol.
He has a sort of tradition of getting me Too Faced palettes every Christmas and this was one I was super excited about! It doesn't smell like Gingerbread in my opinion, but it sure is pretty!

I LOVE Colourpop Liquid Lipsticks!
They're one of the first liquid lipsticks brands I've tried. They can be a bit drying, but I think all liquid lip can be to some sort of drying. I always put on lip balm then do my normal makeup routine THEN put on the liquid lippie last so it gives the balm time to sink into my lips. Especially since I struggle with dry lips, all year round.
These are a few of my fav reds that I like using during the holiday season — though some of these I also like to grab year round.
The Texas State Fair has always been on my bucket list when I lived in Cali but being stuck in a small town with dreams of traveling I never thought I'd be able to make it to one; and I totally never ever thought I'd ever move to Texas!
This year we went to our SECOND Texas State Fair together!
This year I wanted us to get a picture together and someone was kind enough to snap this photo for us! You can barely tell I'm pregnant though lol and being pregnant I thought I'd have a little more eating room... but nahhh, I didn't lol!
We had a vague list of things we wanted to try and we went with doing savory before sweet unlike the year before and I think it worked out a lotttt better that way. We got to try some really good things! Here's a few of our favs;
Deep Fried Shepard's Pie;
This is one we stumbled on when we first walked in. We didn't exactly know what to expect but we were pleasantly surprised to see it came with Gravy and Deep Fried Green Beans.
The Deep Fried Green Beans were SO GOOD. Dipped in that Gravy? OH SO YUMMM!!
The Deep Fried Shepard's Pie was also really good ─ I loved how it was filling stuffed into a ball of Mashed Potatoes. Dipped in the Gravy it was so good and savory!
Cotton Candy Taco;
THIS WAS OUR FAV. And it was one of the biggest things on my list that I had seen before on Instagram.
We found our way to the one inside the car model room where they had the S'mores Cotton Candy Taco. There was a stand outside we found later that had a Strawberry Shortcake and a Chocolate Covered Cherry one as well as the S'mores.
So this was pretty much a Waffle Cone shaped like a Taco Shell; inside was Marshmallow sauce then they put on to some kind of delicious Cotton Candy. Sprinkled with Oreo crumbs and more Marshmallow sauce and 2 delicious Pocky sticks. I don't know WHAT KIND of Pocky these were but the Chocolate on them were so good. I just wanted a box of those on their own.
Oh I hope this is there next year as well! I'll be getting TWO.
We went by the rides/games section and Bubba wanted to win me something, he nailed this one on the first try! He was a pain to walk through the Fair with because he's so awkwardly shaped but how sweet of him!
Here's my outfit and makeup look for the Fair;
Eyes; HUDA Gemstone Obsessions in Ruby
Face; Julep Perk It Under Eye Treatment Brightener + ELF Tone Correcting Powder
Lips; Colourpop Disney Designer Lip Stick in Tiana
Sadly I lost that beanie! And I've had it for years! I have no idea where it went off to and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't sad about it... whomp. Hopefully it's just hanging around the apartment or in Bubba's car somewhere.

It seems every year there's a special Limited Edition Lip Smacker Mickey & Minnie Mouse lip balm set for Valentine's Day.
This year it featured Mickey in Marshmallow Hugs & Minnie Mouse in Sweet Candy Kisses.
I had the one from last year as well but I never opened/tried them and I didn't blog about it, though I'm not sure why I didn't.

Minnie has a cute Strawberry themed looking bow between her ears and Mickey is sporting a red heart on his right ear. But that's not all!

CAN WE TALK ABOUT HOW CUTE THEIR LITTLE MOUSE BUTTS ARE?!
I loved the design they were dressed in and their little tails made it even better! I don't know, I guess I just assumed it was just the front face part that was designed.

I'm gonna start with my favorite former boss, Mickey.
The thing I've never been a fan of when it came to these TsumTsum lip balms is that they're so dang head heavy! And how small of product you actually get (granted I've never actually finished one of these, but still, roll with it) compared to the size of their cute huge heads!
When I first tried these two out I concluded that Mickey tasted like Magic Kingdom.
The scent and the taste of this lip balm reminded me of a really pretty sunny day walking across Main Street USA and eating my favorite Chocolate Marshmallow's from The Confectionery.
It's that kind of taste/scent. I'd say that he had a pretty heavy spot on taste and scent of marshmallow with a really nice powdered vanilla flavor.

When it came to Minnie, I felt like she tasted like EPCOT.
Like, if you were to take Flower & Garden Festival and wrap it up into one flavor, it would be this Minnie.
She had a really sweet fruity taste/scent to her. I could pick out Strawberries and Watermelon and a hint of what sort of reminded me of lollipops.
The only problem was as good as she tasted when first applied, as it faded it just started to taste/remind me of what a big huge sugary mess would smell like lol. I wasn't a fan of what it would fade into.
The scent/taste and the moisture factor for both of these lip balms lasted a really good amount of time. I didn't find myself reapplying it as much as other lip balms and it wasn't at all drying as it did fade.
I really enjoyed trying these guys out. I collect almost anything TsumTsum and I have a number of these lip balms and I USE to review them. I don't know why I stopped! I had so much fun putting this post together!
I'm curious to know what next years flavors are going to be!
I'm Loving | Covergirl Oh Sugar lip balm + Pantone Universe lip gloss combo
Wednesday, February 24, 2016
Here's an unlikely lip combo I've been loving lately!
The Covergirl Oh Sugar! lip balm is pretty heavily tinted in a nice rich berry color. I love the way it slides on and how moisturizing it is (so glad I picked up several of these)! It also has a really nice scent/taste to it. I can't describe exactly what it is --- but it's not a type of cake, that's for sure. It almost has a hint of fruit to it. Whatever it is, it's really really nice! Though it's a lip balm I find that the tint lasts a pretty good amount of time!
Where To Buy:
Covergirl Oh Sugar! lip balm in Jelly --- @ any drugstore location
Pantone x Sephora lip gloss set --- @ Sephora stores
[ignore the forever foundation smudge on my vanity]
Covergirl Oh Sugar! tinted lip balm in Jelly and Pantone Universe lipgloss in Sunlit Allium from the Modern Watercolors collection.

The Pantone Universe lipgloss is pretty opaque for its shade. I love how these lipglosses glide on with a touch of watercolor charm to them, true to the collection name. It's really pretty impressive!
Mixing these two together enhances that berry shade from the Oh Sugar! into a more purple toned berry without being straight up shocking purple. I love adding just a little bit of gloss and playing around with the tint!
Not the best picture as you can't really see the shade of my lips from the lighting but I also paired it with a look from the Pantone Universe x Sephora Watercolor palette as well. I wasn't a fan of how it turned out this day but looking back on the photos now it didn't look that bad. I think I just expect too much from myself!
Here's a better true-to-colors photo.
This day I paired the Covergirl Oh Sugar! in Jelly with a hint of MAC's lipstick in Heroine to enhance that berry again.
Excuse the fact that Nick's eyes are closed. Don't you hate that? When you take a really great photo but the person in it with you either blinked or ruined it so you feel like a jerk for posting it even though you look good in it?
Eep.
Anyway, back to the subject at hand!
This lip combo was Nick's idea! I tend to question his color pairings but then I always end up obsessed with them later haha. I should just stop doubting his lippie advice from now on. He hasn't come up with a bad one yet!
He's been leaning towards more pinkish shades lately which is really scary to me since I can't seem to pull those off very well... but it is LEAP YEAR after all so I'll be dropping a few pinkish shades here and there. Let's see how this goes!

I discovered ColourPop on Instagram randomly.
One of those you follow a person and it leads to another person to another... and another... and eventually I ended up on someone's account dedicated to swatching various different types of products. One look at the pigmentation and quality of ColourPop and I was hooked! All that shimmer! All that glitter! Their lippies swatched pretty nicely too. I was in love. In utter complete love.
Black Friday rolls by.
I don't think I have to even continue that sentence or thought.
I spend hours debating on what I want to purchase. Something holiday-ish? Or something I'd actually use? Had I had enough funds I would had just bought it all! But I surprisingly only ended up with two products. I know, I'm still in shock myself!
I decided on the lippie set Kitty. I had another one that I was about to ship home but had second thoughts on it due to a really bright red I would never had dared to wear. This set contained two colors that were similar but still all colors I would happily wear. I was hoping for a more deep purple shade, but I'm sure I can make that one in the middle work! I finally got around to swatching these on myself last night and I'm blown away by not only the feel and pigmentation but the staying power. I was doing dishes and they still wouldn't wash off! Holy crap! Can I finally sip on my Starbucks straw and not have to deal with that icky lipstick lip stain?! We shall find out!
This is where the choice making got tricky.
Monday's in Malibu contain colors I'm normally drawn to and colors I would wear on a daily basis. BUT this isn't a holiday set, which sort of threw me off. But I am happy with the set I did pick. Swatched these last night as well and holy wow, just... wow.
So. Much. Shimmer.
This kitty meme came to mind. No joke. My eyes were wide and everything.
Anyway...
As you can see by the dip in the corner of the pots where I clearly swatched... yes, it bothers me. Just like adding a meme to this post sort of did because it threw off the images, but I'm learning to deal.
The shadows are incredibly SOFT. Like, stick your finger in it with too much pressure and it will sink. Imagine the pots of shadow is like memory foam. Except, it doesn't exactly bounce back. With that said --- your pots won't be perfect the whole time you'll be showing them love. Sorry. And yes, I'm still trying to think of a way around this. But because of it, they have a base to shadow consistency which is really really nice. And buttery. And a little bit cooling. It makes the shimmer and glitter that much more bolder and the base color underneath it doesn't get rubbed away either. It's so hard to explain but so awesome.
I'm incredibly impressed with my first purchase. Not only were the products shipped nice and snug in their designer box but the quality of the products blew me away too. I really feel like I got my money's worth with this order!
The downside?
Now I'm a little obsessed... and I want more.
I apologize in advanced bank account. But you'll get over it.
I think I was too excited to had found these, but whatever!
I'm pretty obsessed with TsumTsum, the game and the app. I mean, it's Disney. Letsjustbereal. Shout out to Caelon for starting this madness lol!
I guess I should had taken a pic of the whole display... but I was too excited.
The Tsum Tsum Lip Smacker in Marshmallow Pop* also comes in several other characters: Minnie (Strawberry), Winnie The Pooh (Honey), Stitch (Blueberry) and I think there might be one or two more but my store didn't have them. Micky comes in Marshmallow Pop. I wasn't a fan of the other flavors or characters so I went with Mickey. He's my favorite boss anyway.
The packaging is really cute even if it leaves him heavy headed. But you can stack them on top of each other which is pretty cool.
What surprised me the most about it was the fact that there is so little product! The packaging takes over like 80% of the thing. At .26oz it has .01oz more product than an EOS lip balm. Now that's surprising!
Marshmallow Pop is interesting. As soon as I unscrewed it I could immediately smell the powdery vanilla marshmallow scent. The product is smooth and buttery and glides nicely on the lips. Also, it totally tastes like vanilla marshmallows. I had to resist licking my lips... but it didn't work. I regret nothing. The staying power is pretty decent for a Lip Smacker product. It stayed on the rest of the night through dinner and my bubble bath until I brushed my teeth before bed.
If all the other characters/flavors are this true to taste I'm kinda regretting not grabbing them all! Overall I am a fan of this product but that might be a biased opinion since I worked for Disney, I'm obsessed with Disney and I'm obsessed with products that actually taste like what they say they're suppose to taste like.
Still, they make a cute stocking stuffer too!
I've been a huge fan of ELF Cosmetics since 2008. Back when ELF was only sold online and all they had was their $1 line. And that body care line where I tried really hard to like the Coconut scent but couldn't get passed the fact it smelled like RAID. Since then I've watched ELF evolve into the company it is now. Seeing products in stores like Target. Seeing them release an amazing skin care line. But there are some things I miss about the old school ELF. Like my Mineral line for one. The brushes in that line were fab. The ones I have left are my most prized brushes! No joke!
I periodically check the site from time to time. Just to see if anything is new. And besides the skin care line there was!
They released a few more palette colors and renamed them. I picked up two; Mad for Matte and Everyday Smokey. I have one titled Natural when this was first launched and I use it everyday. Have I mentioned I've had it for two years?
I also picked up three shimmer lipglosses (bring back the shimmer studio ones!); Love, Dream, and Inspire. Cute names huh?
I picked up one smudge pot cream base in; Wine Not. I don't have much of an opinion on these. I know when they were first released they dried up super fast. I haven't tried them since then but I couldn't pass on this gorg color! Especially for fall!
And the highlight of this post... the studio moisturizing lipsticks. I love these! Not only do they smell like vanilla cake (I see what you did there) but they ARE moisturizing! They don't dry out my lips and I think I like the stain it leaves behind more than the actual lipstick lol. I picked up 6 of these; Cheeky, Bordeaux Beauty, Black Berry, In the Nude, Southern Bell, and Berry Kiss.
I'm not going to go too into it since I will be writing/filming a review video on these guys. There are a few colors that have been out of stock for awhile that I'm hoping to get my hands on. But I'm loving the dark berry colors and the chestnut browns. Makes me totally miss Fall in Cali! You know... where that's foliage and leaves falling (or as my homie Dre says leafs).
What color are you most interested in?
I remember checking out Syrup by MAC back when I first started doing beauty videos in 2009 because Fafinette always talked about how much she loved it. She was also a lighter complexion than I am. I remember hating it so much because my lips are pigmented so colors don't look as good on me as they would on someone else and I think since I was still getting use to makeup in general I was being a picky brat without giving things an actual chance.
Syrup is a dusty rose with a little bit of a brown undertone I'd say. Or maybe it's just a dusty rose. I don't know, I suck at describing colors. But I can totally describe scents. I guess one or the other right?
Since it's part of the Lustre line it is a lot more moisturizing than other lipsticks. I didn't feel the need to layer it on top of a balm. In fact I prefer not to because when it fades off my lips it leaves a hint of a really pretty stain. So I don't even usually touch it up at all. Sometimes I will top it with a gloss but nothing pigmented enough to take away from the color.
I've been rocking this lip color for the last two weeks and you know what.... it's not so bad.
I actually kind of really like it. It's a nice every day color that isn't my usual classic red or dark red. It's hard for me to find a good every day lip color and I certainly wasn't expecting it to be Syrup when I picked it up. I honestly just picked it because the color I really wanted was sold out (sin something). But I think we've come to an understanding!
Have you ever hated then ended up loving a product?
